Data & Integration
Your business tools should talk to each other. I make that happen.
Stop Re-Typing Data
If your team copies data between systems, imports spreadsheets manually, or can't get a clear picture of your business because the data lives in five different places — that's what I fix.
Every time someone re-types an order from one system into another, you're paying for their time twice and introducing errors. Every time a manager builds a "master spreadsheet" by pulling data from three different tools, you're wasting hours on work that a properly integrated system handles automatically.
API Development
Custom APIs that connect your systems securely. Whether it's linking your accounting package to your CRM, connecting your e-commerce platform to your inventory system, or building a data pipeline between legacy and modern systems.
I build REST APIs using ASP.NET Core — the same technology used by Microsoft, Stack Overflow, and thousands of enterprise applications. These are properly secured with authentication, rate limiting, and comprehensive logging so you always know what data is moving where.
Database Design
Properly structured databases that scale with your business. Moving from spreadsheets to SQL means faster queries, proper data validation, and the ability to build real reporting on top of reliable data.
Good database design is the foundation of every reliable business system. I design schemas that enforce data integrity at the database level — so invalid data can't enter the system regardless of which application or integration is writing to it. That means consistent, trustworthy data across your entire organisation.
Third-Party Integrations
I've built integrations with Zoho, Shopify, Etsy, Xero, Microsoft 365, and many others. If the system has an API, I can connect it to your workflow. Common integration patterns include:
- E-commerce sync — Orders, stock levels, and customer data flowing between your online shop and back-office systems
- Accounting integration — Invoices, payments, and purchase orders synchronised with Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks
- CRM connection — Customer interactions, quotes, and sales pipeline data shared across your business tools
- Microsoft 365 — Calendar, email, SharePoint, and Teams data integrated into your custom applications
What This Looks Like in Practice
For a real example, see how DollyHotDogs unified stock and order data across Shopify, Etsy, and Zoho Inventory — eliminating manual re-keying entirely.
- Wholesale orders arrive as Excel files → automatically imported into your inventory system
- Customer places an order on Shopify → stock updated in your warehouse system instantly
- Timesheet data from mobile clock-in app → flows directly into payroll preparation
- Quotes approved in your CRM → automatically creates a job in your project management system
- Supplier sends a purchase order PDF → AI extracts line items → data imported into your stock system
- Customer added in one system → automatically created across all connected platforms
Data Migration
Moving data between systems is one of the highest-risk operations in any IT project. I've migrated databases with decades of historical data, handling inconsistencies, duplicates, and format changes along the way. Every migration follows the same disciplined process:
- Map — Understand every field, relationship, and edge case in your existing data
- Clean — Identify and resolve inconsistencies before migration, not after
- Transform — Convert data to the new format with full validation at every step
- Verify — Automated record-by-record comparison between source and destination
- Cutover — Coordinated switchover with rollback plan if anything unexpected occurs
Ongoing Monitoring
Integrations aren't "set and forget". APIs change, services go down, and data formats evolve. I build monitoring and alerting into every integration — so when something fails, you know immediately rather than discovering it weeks later when the data doesn't add up. Failed syncs are retried automatically, and persistent issues trigger notifications to the right people.
